PLATTEVILLE - The Albany boys track team ran to a second-place finish at the Six Rivers Conference meet Monday at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg won the conference title for the second straight year, outdistancing the Comets 178-137 for the team title. The Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg girls also rolled to a conference title, racking up 255 points.

Albany senior Brennan Bloedel won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10 minutes, 37.19 seconds. It marks the fourth straight conference championship for Bloedel in the 3,200. Bloedel also won a conference championship in the 1,600 (4:51.70) just ahead of Monticello senior John Zuber who took second place (4:55).

"That is a huge accomplishment to become a four-time conference champion," Albany coach Tony Brewer said. "He's on a roll right now. Hopefully, he can keep it going into regionals. We were hoping to go 1-2-3 in the 3,200 like last year and we did."

Brewer said Benton-Scales Mound/Shullsburg was the favorite.

"We knew going in if we had a great meet we would have to score at least 150 to contend," Brewer said.

Albany junior Josh Little finished second in the 3,200 (11:06.74) and sophomore Isaac Halverson took third (11:07.3). Little added a third place in the 1,600 (4:56.82). Zuber took second place in the 800 (2:12.06). Without its top four runners in the 3,200 relay, the Comets still won the race. Albany junior Tyler Dahl teamed with Halverson, Cole Trapp and Garrett Hlavachek to win the race (9:35.11), which was more than 23 seconds faster than Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg. The Comets' 1,600 relay team of Aaron Johnson, Hunter Georgeson, Hlavachek and Dahl won a conference championship with a time of 3:47.48, which was 0.01 of a second ahead of Monticello, which took second. Georgeson added a third-place finish in the 200 (24.30).

Monticello senior Andy Yaun won the 400 (54.92). Senior teammate Thorin Croushore took third place in the 300 hurdles (48.85).

Albany senior Dallas Edmondson took third in the triple jump (36-2 1/2).

Black Hawk senior Ben Meligan finished third in the shot put (42-11) and the Warriors' 800 relay team finished third place (1:47.65).

In the girls' conference meet, Benton-Scales Mound/Shullsburg rolled to the title 255-125-5 over River Ridge. Albany finished third (101.5) and Pecatonica-Argyle was fourth (66). Monticello took seventh (32) and Black Hawk was last (19) out of eight teams.

Pecatonica-Argyle sophomore Josie Penniston took second place in both the 100 (13.04) and the 200 (27.0). She added a second-place finish in the 400 (1:01.96). The Vikings' 800 relay team took third place (2:08.14).

Albany's Sydnee Woyak won the 1,600 (5:56.22), finished second in the 800 (2:45.37), third in the 3,200 (13:22.08). Albany junior Marley Malkow took third in the shot put (29-2). The Comets' 3,200 relay team finished second (11:20.97) and the 1,600 relay team finished third place (5:03.85).

Monticello junior Ashley Risley took second place in the 3,200 (13:17.72), third in the 1,600 (6:09.91). The Ponies' 400 relay team finished third (1:01.51).

"We knew no one was going to touch Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg," Brewer said of the girls' competition. "Our goal was to score at least 100 points and we did that. They (Benton-Shullsburg) are at a point and phase right now where they have a lot of talent coming in. They are loaded with talent. That is a team along with Cuba City at the state meet that can compete for a trophy."
