Karl Stein, age 86 of rural Argyle, WI passed away Friday, October 20, 2017 at his home. He was born September 26, 1931 in Kikinda, Yugoslovia the son of Karl and Susanne (Marx) Stein. Karl was the fourth of seven children; Ilona, Josephine, Bela, Anne, Susanna, and Mici. He was the last of his siblings to survive. Karl would often say "I must have been an angel to live so long."

Karl was on his own since the age of 13. He came to the United States in 1951, settling in Chicago, IL. He met his wife Luise Kowatschitsch in Chicago while learning English at night school. Luise invited him over for a Sunday lunch to meet her family and as the story goes, "he came over for lunch and stayed a "lifetime". He and Luise were married on December 12, 1953 in Chicago, IL. They were married for 60 years until she preceded him in death on April, 1, 2014.

In 1961, Karl and Luise moved from Chicago to a farm in Brodhead, WI. In 1965 they moved to Argyle and farmed in Adams Township in Green County, WI. In 1980 they made their last move to rural Argyle where he has resided since. Karl was proud of what he and his family were able to achieve through hard work and blessings from the Lord. He loved his family but his work ethic was paramount often saying, "Don't you have any work to do".

Karl is survived by his two daughters: Anita Stein of Argyle and Christine (Tim) Stein-Thesing of Monroe; four grandchildren: Lisa (Bryan) Kumfer, Raymond Moore, Craig (Andrea) Nolen, and Mack Stein; and seven great-grandchildren: Logan and Anna Moore, Emma and Betsy Kumfer, Cleo, Karl, and Lisl Nolen. He was preceded in death by his parents; Luise's parents, his wife Luise and his siblings.

A funeral service will be held Friday, October 27, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle with Reverend Luis Rivera of the Church of the Apostolic Road in Capron, IL officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Argyle. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
