Green County Circuit CourtFeloniesThe court Jan. 27 sentenced Dwayne P. Helmer, 30, Albany, to three years probation, after he pleaded no contest to child abuse charges.The court also ordered Helmer to pay $105 in fines and court costs; to undergo an alcohol assessment and mental health assessment or treatment; not possess or consume alcohol or non-prescription drugs; not enter establishments or store areas that sell intoxicants; and have no contact with the victim or her family members except through a probation agent or Human Services.Court records indicate Helmer, on or about July 14, 2010, in the Village of Monticello, recklessly harmed an 18-month-old child by repeatedly slapping her face and buttocks, causing bruises, abrasions and swelling to her back, cheek, eyelid and neck.He was charged with child abuse to intentionally cause harm, a class H felony. He faced up to 6 years in prison and $10,000 in fines. In another case, the court sentenced Helmer to 62 days in jail and three years probation concurrent with other probation sentences, after he pleaded no contest to charges related to the use of a dangerous weapon.The court also fined Helmer $511 in fines and court costs.Court records indicate Helmer, on or about Dec. 26, 2010, in the Village of Albany, pulled out filet knife hidden in his back pocket and repeatedly lunged at a person, trying to stab him in the abdomen, and then swung a hammer at him.He was charged with second degree recklessly endangering safety with the use of a dangerous weapon, a class G felony, and carrying a concealed weapon, a class A misdemeanor.
