William “Bill” J. Herbst, age 65 of Monroe, died Friday December 23, 2022 at home. He was born on November 10, 1957 in Hazel Green, the son of Faedelus and Elva (Brandt) Herbst. He graduated from Shullsburg High School. Bill married Pam Vordermann on September 16, 1978 in Rockton, IL. 

Bill was a Tire builder at Kelly Springfield in Freeport for 43 years, retiring in 2019; he still held his membership in the retiree United Steel Workers Local 745. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cars; especially his corvette and his family.

He is survived by his mother, Elva Hermanson of Monroe; partner, Shari Cook of Monroe; son, Alec Herbst of Monroe; grandchildren: Jake, Ethan and Alexis Herbst; dogs, Gus and Yoda; daughter-in-law, Jenn Herbst of Monroe; siblings: Steve Herbst of Monroe, Ed (Dawn) Herbst of Hazel Green, LeAnne Olson of Platteville, Jim Herbst of Sun Prairie, and Kristy (Joe) Wubben of East Dubuque, IL. He was preceded in death by his father, Faedelus; his son, Matthew J. Herbst, and brothers: Bob, David, and Brian Herbst.

Private Funeral services will be held at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home, with Pastor Dennis Perger officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
