Melodie J. Manthei, age 58 of Browntown, died Saturday September 29, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 30, 1959 in Monroe, the daughter of Eugene Weiss and Jackie Kammerude-Carpenter. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1978 and Franklin University in 2012 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Management Information Systems. Melodie married Paul E. Manthei on March 4, 1978 in Rockton, IL. She was the Technology Coordinator for the Brodhead School District for 18 years; and at the same time helped her husband on the farm. Melodie was many things, a beekeeper, woodworker, carpenter, and gardener. She also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, fishing, playing violin and riding motorcycles; but she always had time for family.
Melodie was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and grandmother. She demonstrated great moral strength and determination in all aspects of her life. She had many skills and talents but was always willing and motivated to learn and do more for anyone. From remodeling a log home with Paul to relearning to play the accordion for the 100th anniversary of Cheese Days, her determination knew no bounds.
She is survived by her husband, Paul of Browntown; children: Dana (Joe) Seis of Grand Marsh, WI, Carlie Manthei of New Glarus, and Dylan (Courtney) Manthei of Poynette; 3 grandchildren: Calvin, Gabe, and Jessie; her mother, Jackie (Richard) Carpenter of Monroe and father, Eugene (Carol) Weiss of Monroe; brother, Richard (Janice) Weiss of Monroe; sister, Jody (Sean) Flannery of Monroe. She was preceded in death by her brother, Todd Babler.
A celebration of Melodie’s Life will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Pioneer cemetery at a later date.
