JANESVILLE — Mary Jane Kubly, age 84, a longtime resident of Janesville, passed away Tuesday morning, September 25, 2018 at her home after a brief battle with cancer. She arrived in this world on April 18, 1934, the daughter of the late James E. & Ethel V. (Gavigan) Farmer. She was married to Richard A. Kubly, Sr., on September 6, 1951 at St. Victor’s Catholic Church in Monroe. They had just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. They raised their 3 children in Monroe, until moving to Janesville in 1966. Mary had been employed for many years at Terrace and Plaza Pharmacies. She was an active volunteer at the Salvation Army, where she helped with Coats for Kids, and also the annual Plant Sale. Mary loved to travel, and instilled that love in her kids and grandkids. For over 30 years, they spent some time each winter in Florida. She loved taking rides in the car, especially over to the Mississippi River area. She loved her many trips to Seattle, WA and Hawaii. She also took trips to Switzerland and Ireland where her and her husband’s families originated. Mary was very interested in geneology, and was very proud to find out she was 92% Irish! Mary’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and friends. You could find her attending dance recitals, band concerts, sporting events, or anything else involving her grandchildren or great-grandchildren. She was their biggest supporter! She had been watching great-grandchildren 1 day a week until early June. She never wasted a minute of time when she was with them. She was a great cook, and was known for her Swiss Steak dinners which were accompanied by a bowl of homemade apple sauce. She also loved baking pies, and always had one on hand to offer a slice to family and friends who would stop by! Mary had a very special group of girlfriends. She so enjoyed meeting them for coffee in the morning, hosting coloring parties, or going out for lunch to celebrate a birthday. She enjoyed having coffee and dessert on the deck overlooking their beautiful yard. Mary was also one of the greatest “card senders” around! She never forgot to send a card for a birthday, anniversary or holiday. We will all miss her cards in our mailboxes. She also never missed hosting the holiday gatherings for her family.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Richard “Dick” Kubly; her 3 children, Deborah (Jack) Larsen, Richard Kubly, Jr., and Doreen (Steve) O’Leary; her 7 grandchildren, who all adored their grandmother, Jennifer (Steve) Jaeger, Amy (Jason) Mueller, David (Melissa) Larsen, Katie (Paul) McQuillen, Matt (Cindy) O’Leary, Nick (Audrey) O’Leary, and Christopher Kubly; her 12 great-grandchildren, Rayna & Charlotte Jaeger, Cole McQuillen, Anika Mueller, Connor, Caiden, Sawyer, and Molly Jane McQuillen, Miles, Mason, Maya, and Avery O’Leary; and by many other family members and friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William and Charles Farmer.
Funeral services with a Mass of Christian Burial were held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at ST. WILLIAM’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 456 N. Arch St., with Fr. Jim Leeser officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation took place from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M. on Thursday at the CHURCH. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials in Mary’s name would be appreciated to the Salvation Army, 514 Sutherland Ave., Janesville, WI 53545, or at www.salvationarmyusa.org. Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.
