Kathryn L. Hanson, age 102, of New Glarus and formerly Blanchardville passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at the New Glarus Home.  She was born on December 18, 1921 in Monroe, WI the daughter of George and Maggie (Knobel) Itten.  Kathryn was a proud graduate of New Glarus High School in 1939.  On August 24, 1947 she was united in marriage to Kenneth “Cub” Hanson at the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus.  The couple farmed in the Town of York near Postville for many years where she was the dairy cattle herdsman. Kathryn was a member of the Adams Lutheran Church and Green County Home and Community Education (Adams Homemakers).  She was an avid baseball fan and loved to “old time” dance.  Kathryn also enjoyed baking homemade bread, playing cards, and in later years watching “Wheel of Fortune.”

Kathryn is survived by her children Paul (Christine) Hanson of Moorpark, CA, Charles (Clarenda) Hanson of Rockton, IL, and Kristin (Peter) Leonard of Blanchardville, WI, grandchildren Brendan (Jeanne) Hanson, Cary (Stephanie) Hanson, Kelly (Matt) Kolodziejczyk, Lindsay (Duane) Stoneking, Alex (Katherine) Hanson, Nikki (Tim) Enlighquest, Allison (Jeff) Hanson-Meschewski, Heidi Schaeffer, Wendy Anderson, Larry (Melissa) Sloatman, Melissa (Jeff) Flannery, Amanda Leonard, and Travis (Megan) Leonard, and twenty-four great-grandchildren.  She is further survived by a sister-in-law Ruth Miller of Loves Park, IL, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth in 2006, sisters & brothers-in-law Iona (Ivan) Zweifel, Belva (Carl) Mueller, Eldera (Paul) Eichelkraut and brother-in-law Sheldon Hanson. 

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Adams Lutheran Church, N7148 County Rd. A, Argyle, WI.  Inurnment will be in the Adams Lutheran Church Cemetery. 

The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus is assisting the family.
