John M. Blum, age 96 of Monroe died Monday, February 20, 2023 at SSM Hospice Home in Monroe. He was born on October 8, 1926 in Green County, the son of Martin and Clara (Christen) Blum. John married Dorothy on December 15, 1946 in Monroe.
John spent his life farming on the family farm in Washington township. He loved the land and the outdoors. Never one to miss a day of work, he could be found on the tractor in the field long after he retired. When he wasn’t working on his farm, he could be found helping others with crops, picking berries, or searching for morel mushrooms. He loved hunting and was an excellent marksman who took pride in passing his hunting knowledge onto the next generation.
John is survived by his daughter, Jean Blum of Lake City, FL; daughter-in-law, Beverly Blum of Ft. Atkinson, WI; 5 grandchildren: Teresa (Bill) Haymes of Dane, WI, Jenifer (Chris) Sprague of Kildeer, IL, Shannon Dunn of North Fort Myers, FL, Jesse Dunn of Cape Coral, FL, and Ashley (Tabatha) Dunn of Gainesville, FL; 6 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren. He is further survived by his brothers, Jacob Blum and Charles Blum. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy in 2022; his parents; a son, Gordon; and two sisters, Elsie Loeffel and Betty Felder.
