EVANSVILLE – Joanne Rae Hubacher, age 90 years, passed away on September 2, 2018. The former Joanne Root was born on May 28, 1928, in Brooklyn, Wisconsin, the third child of Raymond and Byrd Root.
She attended several country schools and high schools, graduating from Monticello High School in 1946. Joanne worked as a bookkeeper for many companies over the years, retired from the Wisconsin Gas Company after 20 years, and retired again 10 years later from the March of Dimes in Madison. She remained a fundraiser for the March of Dimes for several years following her retirement, devoting much of her time to the successful 4 Wheelin’ With Feelin’ campaigns. Joanne married the love of her life, Herbert Hubacher, on November 17, 1951, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jayne (Mark) Niendorff, of Oak Creek; Lisa Hubacher (Ken Duren), of Madison; and her beloved daughter-in-law, Mary Hubacher, of Waukesha. Joanne also has three surviving sisters.
She has four grandchildren whom she loved very much: Justin [Alia] Hubacher, of Waukesha; Aaron [Kristyn] Hubacher, of Menomonee Falls; Myriah Hrdlicka [Dylan Hawkins], of Minneapolis; and Allyson Niendorff, of Oak Creek. She has four great grandchildren whom she absolutely adored: Bennett, Dexter, Calvin, and James. Joanne is preceded in death by her parents; brother; husband; and only son, Mark Hubacher.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, please donate to the March of Dimes and/or the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin. A remembrance celebration will be held at a later date.
