Harold M. Lelle, age 101, of rural Argyle passed away on Monday, September 21, 2020 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born the son of Nickolas M. and Mathilda M. (Krupke) Lelle on June 30, 1919 in South Wayne. Harold attended rural school in South Wayne. He was united in marriage to Betty Jane Hicks on January 31, 1941; she preceded him in death on February 9, 1994. He was a longtime member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Wayne.

Harold farmed in the Orangeville, IL area and rural Monroe until 1948, when he and Betty bought the farm on Jordan Center Rd; where Harold currently resided. He served on the Jordan Town Board, he was also supervisor and served on many organizations. In 1966 he became a Green County Deputy Sheriff; he was appointed Chief Deputy in 1968. Harold was elected Green County Sheriff in 1981 and served until his retirement in 1985.

Harold enjoyed his fishing trips and numerous trips to Las Vegas. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Harold is survived by his son, Richard (Bev) Lelle of Woodford; grandchildren, Todd (Holly) Lelle, Tim (Patty) Lelle and Tara (Jimmy) Hagen; great-grandchildren, Katie, Kayla (Aldo Frias), and Kyle Lelle, Hunter, Nicholas, and Cooper Lelle, and Brianna and Brady Hagen; great-great-granddaughter, Sophia; his brother, Clark Lelle; sister-in-law, Dora Pickett; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty, and sisters, Marian Retzlaff and Helen Scherer.

Funeral Services will be held at 11AM on Friday, September 25, 2020 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Wayne with Pastor Dennis Perger officiating. Burial will follow services in Union Cemetery in South Wayne.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home from 4:00-7:00PM; continued visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00AM until the time of service, at the church.

Due to the current health conditions, social distancing is recommended.
