Eileen Gladys Althaus, age 86, of Albany passed away, surrounded by her family, on Monday, June 24, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. She was born the daughter of William and Gladys (Blumer) Schneeberger on January 14, 1938 in Monroe. She was a graduate of Albany High School. Eileen was united in marriage to Walter R. Althaus on September 14, 1957 in Monticello.
Eileen was the Office Manager and Licensed Insurance Agent for several insurance companies throughout Madison for 50 years. She was a longtime member of the Albany Lions Club; she also served on the Albany Village Board and Library Board. In her free time she enjoyed bowling, knitting, reading, playing games with her family and friends, and baking Christmas cookies with her grandchildren.
Eileen is survived by her husband of nearly 67 years, Walt of Albany; children, Jacki (Todd) Sutherland of North Freedom and Chris Beer of Monroe; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bob (Kathy) Schneeberger of Raymore, MO, Joan (Willie) Flood of Albany, Roger Schneeberger of Oregon, WI, Gene (Romaine) Schneeberger of Mt. Horeb, and Kathy Naber of Versailles, KY; and several nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard; granddaughter, Crystal Beer; brothers, Warren and Fred Schneeberger; sister-in-law, Lavonne Schneeberger; and brother-in-law, Mick Naber.
A Celebration of Eileen’s Life will be on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at the Albany Lion’s Club. Memorials may be made in Eileen’s memory to the Wisconsin Lion’s Eye Bank or the Wisconsin Lion’s Foundation.
