Duane Lester Mau, age 71, of Reedsburg formerly of South Wayne passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc. He was born on March 29, 1952 in Freeport, IL to Lester and Marjorie (Melland) Mau in South Wayne. He went to school at West Wayne School from first grade until eighth grade; he then went to South Wayne High School, graduating in 1970. Duane was united in marriage to Patricia Martin on April 19, 1999 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Wayne, where they both are members.

Duane worked on the family home farm in between jobs. He also worked at Holiday Gas Station in Monroe from June of 1970 until June of 1971; he then worked at the foundry in Browntown throughout 1971. From 1972-1979 he worked for Green County PrePack, and went to haul milk for Babler’s Trucking from 1979-1992. He continued to drive semi for Hartland Express in Iowa, and later Whitehead Trucking in Monroe starting in 1993. They were later bought by Bunch Transportation, Duane continued driving truck until his semi accident in 1997.

When Duane was younger, he enjoyed taking fishing trips with family to Canada. He also like to roller-skate, and was a floor walker at the roller-skating rink in Monroe. He also liked to bowl at Leisure Lane’s for Babler Trucking team, playing cards and bingo, and participating in antique tractor pulls. Duane enjoyed cooking and baking from scratch. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, and also enjoyed watching NASCAR and PBR bull riding. Duane also loved to travel and had seen 48 of the 50 states; as well as Canada and Mexico.

Duane is survived by his wife, Patricia of Reedsburg, WI; brother, Delvin (Mary Hagen) Mau of South Wayne; three nieces, Sarah (Jessie) Voegeli of Browntown, Stacy (Jim) Foecking of South Wayne, and Stephanie (Terry) Plath Browntown. He is further survived by two great-nieces, Taylor (Fiancé, Kyle Olson) Voegeli and Halle Jo Foecking; four great-nephews, Garret and Owen Voegeli, Gunner Foecking, and Carson Plath; god-mother, Winogene Everson; his Godson, Trevor Drain; and several cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparents, Elmer “Victor” and Dorothy (Johnson) Melland; paternal grandparents, Chester and Pearl (Burkhalter) Mau; uncles, Walter Melland, Donald Eckerman, Kenneth DeNure, Robert Everson, and Alvin Melland; aunts, Muriel Holverson, Marian Gallagher, Lois Melland, and Romona DeNure; and cousins, Tommy Melland, Kevin Holverson, Jerry Melland, and Valarie Melland.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 13, 2023 at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Perger officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe.
