Dorothy A. Martin 2

Dorothy A. Martin, 95, of New Glarus, WI formerly of Argyle, WI passed away July 7, 2023. She was born February 19, 1928 in Argyle, the daughter of William and Delia (Halverson) Hendrickson. Dorothy was a graduate of Argyle High School, class of 1946. Dorothy was united in marriage to Alton N. Martin on October 4, 1959 at Argyle Methodist Church in Argyle. She and Alton farmed for many years together with his brother Clayton and her sister Margaret (who married in 1962). They retired from active farming in 1995 and continued to live on their cherished farm until Nov. 2012, when they moved to Glarner Lodge Assisted Living Home in New Glarus.

A woman of strong faith, Dorothy sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school. She was an active member of Argyle Methodist Church and later Yellowstone Lutheran Church and its women’s groups. She was also a member of the Argyle American Legion Auxiliary Post #251 for over 60 years.

Dorothy had a deep love for the outdoors. She enjoyed hiking and picking wildflowers, especially wood violets, buttercups, and lilacs. She had a knack for art, gardening, and photography, all of which she passionately pursued. Dorothy's adventurous spirit led her on numerous road trips throughout the United States with her sister Margaret, visiting places like Tennessee, New York and Canada.

She worked as an office assistant to Dr. Richard Hunter during his first five years in Argyle and worked at L.A. Rossing Co. store as a bookkeeper.

Dorothy's family was her greatest joy. She is survived by her two sons, David Martin of Oswego, IL, and Ron (Beth) Martin of Fort Atkinson, WI. Her love extended to her six grandchildren: Cynthia Martin, Katherine (Josh) Harper, Brenda (Nik) Orton, William (Krystle) Martin, Aaron Martin and Emily Martin, and her only great-grandchild: Annabeth Grace Martin. Her family was her world, and she often expressed how proud she was of all of them. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alton, her sisters Mildred Malinski, Wilma Hain and Margaret Martin, her brothers Paul Hendrickson and one in infancy, and a daughter in law, Beth Martin.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Yellowstone Lutheran Church, 4472 Saints Rd., Blanchardville, WI with Rev. Daniel L. Bohlman officiating. Visitation will precede the service at 9:00 AM until time of service at the church. Burial will be in Yellowstone Lutheran Church Cemetery. Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family. Dorothy's family wishes to thank the staff of New Glarus Home for their loving and compassionate care over the years, as well as Agrace Hospice for wonderful care in her last days. Many thanks also to Rev. Dan Bohlman and the people of Yellowstone Lutheran Church, as well as the American Legion Auxiliary.
