David O. Blum

David O. Blum, age 83, of Monroe, died at his home on Monday, March 18, 2024 after a prolonged illness. Dave was born on October 22, 1940 in Monroe, the son of William O. and Agnes Eva (Kelly) Blum. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1958 and attended automotive maintenance school in Madison. He served for 30 years in the Wisconsin Air National Guard where he worked as an automotive technician (26 years) before retiring in 1993. He was united in marriage to Mary Jean Tryon on November 13, 1982 at Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello. He was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #84, and a 20 year member of C.A.F. in Arizona. Dave enjoyed many diverse hobbies some of which were fishing, tinkering with electronics, playing Euchre, and woodworking. He had the pleasure of constructing approximately 50 flag cases for veterans and their families throughout the years. He loved wintering with Mary in Avondale, AZ for 20 years and was proud to take part in Badger Honor Flight in October, 2022.

Dave will be truly missed by his wife of 43 years, Mary Jean of Monroe; daughter, Kelly (William) Peterson of Monticello; son, Morgan Blum of Minneapolis, MN; granddaughter, Marissa Peterson of Fitchburg; nephew, Peter (Erin) Blum of Monroe; and the mother of his children, Larna Corbin of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Madeleine Peterson; brother, William F. Blum; and nephews, Alan and Joel Blum.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Pastor Mary Gafner officiating. A celebration of David’s life will follow the service at American Legion Post #84, 1627 12th Avenue, Monroe. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, March 22, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in David’s name to the American Legion Cabin Fund, SSM Monroe Hospice, or Badger Honor Flight.
