Catherine E. Frey passed away on May 27, 2024. She was born on May 29, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of Leo and Cecelia (nee Finegan) Kenney.
Catherine attended Trinity High School and later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education at Rosary College. She was united in marriage to George R. Frey at Resurrection Church in Chicago, Illinois on February 23, 1957. Aside from their five children, her greatest pride has been her and George’s family farm in Blanchardville, Wisconsin. Catherine taught in the Argyle School District for over twenty years. In addition to her devotion to teaching, Catherine enjoyed golfing, was an avid Packer, Chicago Cubs and Badger fan, a lover of literature, a novelist of sorts and had a wit that few dared to spar with. She embraced her Irish heritage and shared Eugene O’Neill’s sentiment that “Nothing says more about me than the fact that I am Irish”.
Catherine is survived by her children: Maggie (Steve) Zoellner, Joanne (Gary) Eisenzimmer, and Kate Frey Peterson and her daughter-in-law, Sue Frey, and son-in-law, Steve Larson. Her legacy is also carried on by her grandchildren: Sean (Kyla) Frey, Amy (Patrick Boerner) Larson, Zachary (Kylie) Larson, Nicholas (Annie) Larson, Kellen (Erin) Zoellner, Garry Zoellner, Monica (Charlie) Kutschenreuter, Anna Eisenzimmer, Nathan Eisenzimmer, Kevin Eisenzimmer, Kelly Peterson, and Daniel Peterson along with great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Blair, Taylor, Sean Jr., Theodore, Scarlett, Noelle, and Dylan; and one brother-in-law: James Swieca. In death Catherine is reunited with her husband: George R. Frey and her children George K. Frey and Elizabeth Larson, her sister Ann Smith, sister-in-law Catherine Swieca and brother-in-law Fred Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 3, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 11:00AM. A visitation will be held Monday, June 3, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 10:00AM- 10:45AM. A family remembrance will take place at 10:45 AM prior to the funeral mass. Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery following the funeral mass. The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family. In leu of flowers a memorial fund supporting the Argyle Excellence in Education Fund has been established in Catherine's name.
A special note of gratitude is extended to the staff at Aster Assisted Living in Monroe and Agrace Hospice. Their friendship and compassion were sources of great comfort to Catherine and her family.
