Beverly Carol
Stabenow, age 80, of Monroe, died on Monday, November, 26, 2018 at Monroe
Clinic Hospital. She was born September 18, 1938 in New Diggings, WI to parents
Roscoe and Marion (Redfearn) Monroe. She grew up in New Diggings and graduated
from Benton High School in 1956. She then attended Platteville State Teachers
College (UW-Platteville) where she studied elementary education. After receiving
her diploma in 1960, Beverly began her teaching career at Monroe’s Old North
School and later moved to the newly constructed Northside Elementary School
where she remained until her retirement. She was a dedicated second grade
teacher for 45 years in the Monroe School District. She continued to prepare
math charts for second grade students for another 15 years after her
retirement.
Beverly married Larry Stabenow in August, 1964. The couple lived on the Stabenow family farm in Winslow, IL until they relocated to Monroe, WI.
Larry and Beverly lovingly restored a country church and school house in Council Hill, IL where Beverly’s mother attended as a young girl. They spent retirement years managing wedding events held at the church. They enjoyed summers spent at the school house visiting with friends, neighbors, and relatives.
Beverly also enjoyed making handcrafted items. She partnered with her father creating handmade Christmas ornaments…he would do the woodworking and she would embellish with paint and decorations. They would continue this tradition for years and would sell their creations at craft fairs, including Cheese Days. Beverly always looked forward to Friday coffee dates with retired teachers. She attended Lead Mine Primitive Methodist Church.
Beverly is survived by many cousins and grateful students. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry in October 2018 and by her parents.
