MONROE - Cell phone users in northwestern Green County and a large part of eastern Lafayette County should notice better reception by now.
U.S. Cellular's new cell site in Argyle, which went live on Nov. 23, increases U.S. Cellular's coverage along County C and County J. Customers residing in New Glarus, Monticello, Argyle and much of Lafayette County will also benefit from the new cell site.
"We'll have better coverage for people in these places, but also as they travel along the routes between the communities," Jim Lawrence, director of System Performance at U.S. Cellular in Milwaukee, said Tuesday.
Lawrence said the new cell site is a result of customers in the area speaking up about dead zones in their coverage areas.
"We look at the entire coverage area and know where areas have weak coverage. Performance engineers get tickets from customers and try to fill in the gaps," he added.
While U.S. Cellular has announced it will bring its 4G network to select cities in Wisconsin in 2012. The new cell phone tower is to enhance its existing 3G network. Lawrence said he did not know when U.S. Cellular will bring 4G capabilities, which offer faster data speeds, to the local area.
