Several communities will have United to Amend referendums on the November ballot.
The United to Amend effort seeks a Constitutional amendment to say that rights are limited to "natural born persons" and not businesses or corporations. The amendment is in response to the U.S. Supreme Court's 2010 Citizen's United decision that said corporations and organizations have the same rights as individuals and allowed unlimited election spending through political action committees, which does not have to be reported.
Referendums seeking the change are on the ballot in the towns of Cadiz, Decatur, Mt. Pleasant and New Glarus and the villages of Monticello and New Glarus.
Similar referendums were approved in Brodhead, Monroe and the towns of Clarno and York in the spring election.
