MONROE — Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved in a fatal two-motorcycle crash last weekend. One victim, a 60-year-old female from Fort Atkinson, was airlifted to a regional hospital before succumbing to her injuries.
According to a statement from the Green County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened just after 12:36 p.m. Saturday in the N8000 block of Wis. 69, Town of New Glarus.
“Investigation found that a motorcycle was operating southbound on STH 69 when the operator abruptly attempted to turn left into the brewery driveway,” the statement said. “A second motorcycle was following the first and struck the side of the motorcycle.”
Both riders were not wearing helmets, police said, although they were both wearing eye protection.
The second driver sustained an injury characterized as being “severe” and was transported by ambulance to an area hospital. The first driver sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported via med flight for medical care, authorities said. On Tuesday morning, July 11, authorities sent out a press releases announcing her death. The Sheriff's Office is expected to release the name of the crash victim later this week.
This incident was Green County's third fatal traffic crash of 2023.
