Two arrested for residential burglary

MONROE - Two men were arrested at about 1 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10 in connection with a residential burglary in the 2200 block of 8th Street a few hours earlier.

Samuel M. Krebs, 23, Monroe, was arrested by Green County Sheriff's deputies, charged with burglary and is currently jailed.

Gregory M. Key, 25, Monroe, was arrested by Stephenson County sheriff's deputies and charged with burglary. Key was transferred to Winnegebo County jail, where he was held awaiting extradition proceedings.

Police were called to the home at about 9:20 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9 after the victim returned home to find that electronics and collectibles valued at about $2,000 were taken. The victim reported seeing two males, who were known to the victim, leaving the area.

Police searched the area around Monroe for the suspects, who were later found in Orangeville shortly before midnight.

Krebs returned to Wisconsin with officers to show the location on Shueyville Road near the stateline where the items were hidden and the vehicle used in the burglary was abandoned. Law enforcement officers located numerous items that were allegedly taken in the burglary.

Key declined to return to Wisconsin and was arrested in Illinois after the items were recovered.
