MONROE — The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department will be having fireworks this year on July 4 from Twining Park. There will be no ground display and Twining Park road and parking lots at Twining Park will be closed.

The shelters, parking lots and road through the park will be closed all day July 4. Due to the size of the safety zone required for this type of aerial fireworks show, there will be a much larger area roped off where foot traffic is not allowed all day as well.

“We recommend that viewers make other arrangements for viewing locations,” said Marge Klinzing, Monroe Recreation Director. “With no ground display, and bigger firework shells, this type of show is designed to watch from a distance.”

There will be no activities at the park throughout the day, unlike in years past. The carnival, band concert, softball, soccer and volleyball tournaments have all been canceled and there will be no concessions as well, all in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The public is encouraged to observe social distancing by watching fireworks from home or from inside parked vehicles. WEKZ will be playing patriotic music on 93.7 FM during the fireworks show.

Klinzing thanked the City of Monroe and Gold sponsors Colony Brands and the Monroe Fund for helping put on the show, as well as Wisconsin Bank & Trust for sponsoring the finale.

“For the past 28 years Wisconsin Bank & Trust has been the Salute to American Sky Concert sponsor and we couldn’t be happier that we can continue the tradition in 2020,” said Ron Markham, Market President of Wisconsin Bank & Trust. “This is an exciting event that brings the community together and will provide a much-needed evening of celebration during these times.”
