MONROE - The Monroe Times received four first-place awards and 12 awards overall in the 2008 Wisconsin Newspaper Association's Better Newspaper Contest. The award winners were announced Friday during a WNA convention dinner in Green Bay.
The Times won first-place awards in Division C, for daily newspapers up to circulation of 9,999, for its editorial page and sports pages. John McNally won a first-place award for a local sports column, and Jim Winter took top honors for a feature photo.
The Times also won second-place awards for editorials and for its front pages. Mark Nesbitt was a second-place winner in the sports photo category. The Times also won two second-place awards in the advertising contest, for its Farm Technology Days special sections, and for advertising sales tool (circulation map).
Jim Winter was a third-place winner for a spot news photo, and John McNally earned honorable mention for a sports photo.
Laura Hughes was a third-place winner for best in-paper niche publication (The Source).
