ALBANY - The Albany school board this morning got to practice its version of a do-over.
After new school board members were elected April 1, the board reorganized at its April 14 meeting.
Trouble is, state statutes do not allow board restructuring until at least the fourth Monday in April, meaning the board was in violation of state statutes.
"It's a pretty ridiculous kind of rule," District Administrator Steve Guenther said. "But it's an ethical thing and we want to be in compliance."
School board clerk Fairy Elmer discovered the discrepancy when she received election information, Guenther said.
The board met this morning at 7:30 In the school library to take care of the technicality. Fairy Elmer is the new school board president. Hilary Bauman is vice president; Becky Mather, clerk; and Jeanne Meier, treasurer.
"We thought we were being real efficient," Guenther said. "Now we're taking the best road which is to re-do it and be in compliance."
