BENTON — A recent traffic stop by officers in Lafayette County resulted in the seizure of more than 76 grams of crystal meth and the arrest of a local wanted man.
Brooke P. Nolte, 30, Benton, was arrested Thursday after a county detective assigned to the Stateline Area Narcotics Team noticed him driving a vehicle westbound on Wisconsin 11 in Shullsburg. According to a release from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, Nolte was a suspended driver and was wanted on an active child support warrant.
Just before 3:30 p.m., Nolte was pulled over east of Benton and arrested on the warrant. The officer was assisted by the Darlington Police K-9 officer and his partner Kilo, who indicated there were drugs in the car that Nolte had been driving. When police searched the car, more than 42 grams of crystal methamphetamines were found hidden inside.
When officers later searched Nolte’s home in the 500 block of East Main Street within the village, they found another 33.6 grams of the same substance. Officers also discovered packaging materials and drug paraphernalia within the residence.
Nolte is in custody in the county jail on the warrant and a probation hold issued by the state Department of Corrections. The sheriff’s office also arrested him on charges of possession of methamphetamines with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the release by Lafayette County Sheriff Reg Gill, Nolte was also cited for traffic offenses.
Nolte has a history of traffic offenses dating back to early 2008 in court records. He has also been found guilty of financial fraud, theft, possession of THC and on a charge of 4th degree sexual assault.
