RR bridge to come out

MONROE - During the week of May 9, Dane County Contracting continued with the installation of sanitary sewer main from 14th Avenue to 15th Avenue. They installed 250 feet of 10-inch sewer main. New water and sewer services were reconnected to the new mains and replaced to the property line. They also continued with the installation of 8-inch water main from 15th Avenue to 16th Avenue. They installed 300 feet of water main.

Rock Road Companies continued with the installation of 18-inch, 15-inch, and 12-inch concrete storm sewer pipe along 8th Street from 9th Avenue to 10th Avenue. They installed about 210 feet of storm sewer while ripping and hammering through 4 feet of solid rock between 9th and 10th Avenue. Rock Road has completed the excavation of the subsoil of the street from the bridge to 10th Avenue, and has removed concrete pavement from 10th Avenue to 11th Avenue. After the soil and rock excavation they placed 6 inches of breaker run, and an initial layer of the 13 inches of gravel base course. Voegeli Landscaping continued working on retaining wall installations at 15th Avenue, 18th Avenue, and 19th Avenue. They also started to work on the retaining wall along the 1200 block of 9th Street.

Next week Dane County Contracting will continue with the sanitary sewer main installation along 14th Avenue going south of 9th Street for 160 feet and along 15th Avenue going north of 9th Street for 100 feet. Dane County Contracting will continue with the water main installation from 16th Avenue working east towards 18th Avenue.

Next week Rock Road Companies will start removing concrete pavement from 11th Avenue to 13th Avenue. They will continue with storm sewer installation from 10th Avenue working towards 13th Avenue. After the concrete is removed from 10th to 13th Avenue the grading crew will go back and continue with the placement of the street base from Wisconsin 69 to 12th Avenue and continue working east to join up with the storm sewer crew. Voegeli Landscaping will be working on retaining wall installation at 19th Avenue, 15th Avenue, and between 12th and 13th Avenues.

The closing of the bike trail is scheduled for May 17 to facilitate the removal of the bridge. An alternate route will be signed to get around the construction. The bridge is scheduled to be removed by the end of the week.

All intersections will remain open for cross traffic the majority of the time, except when they have to install utilities through the intersection. The intersections will be completely barricaded when this is happening as well as partial closure at the prior intersection. Otherwise the barricades will be offset to allow for cross traffic.

The work zone speed reduction from 35 mph to 25 mph along Wis. 69, from 6th Street (Pizza Hut) to 16th Street (Humane Society) will go in effect on Monday, May 16.
