PLATTEVILLE — A Platteville police officer resigned Oct. 25 after he was arrested for drunk driving by Grant County sheriff’s deputies around midnight the day before.

A Grant County deputy was driving south on U.S. 151 near County O southwest of Platteville around 11:55 p.m. Oct. 23 when the deputy met a vehicle driving north in the southbound lanes. Grant County 911 received a call about the same vehicle around the same time.

The deputy pulled over the vehicle, driven by Devin Malott, 28, Belmont, near Hummingbird Lane. After an investigation, Malott was arrested for first-offense drunk driving, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Malott, who had been a police officer for four years, resigned Thursday, according to Police Chief Doug McKinley.
