MONROE - Starting this week, all Green County residents are eligible for a free discount card to use at pharmacies for prescription medication.
The county is offering the prescription discount card as part of a partnership with the National Association of Counties.
The Green County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution in June to offer the cards, and the program went live Oct. 1.
Any county resident is eligible to receive a card by visiting www.caremark. com/naco or calling (877) 321-2652. There are no income or age requirements.
The discount card provides unlimited use, at an average savings of 24 percent, for the cardholder's family. It even covers some medications for pets.
The card doesn't typically cover over-the-counter products but it does discount many diabetic supplies.
Locally, the card is accepted at Monroe Clinic, Schultz Pharmacy, Medicine Mart, Walgreens, Walmart and Shopko.
