NEW GLARUS - New Glarus's public library is another step closer to building its new home on the village's west side.

The library board is scheduled to close on the purchase of property west of the North American Swiss Center July 8.

The New Glarus Plan Commission approved a certified survey map (CSM) for the proposed library Thursday. The CSM will go to the village board for approval July 5.

The CSM was needed to section off a small portion of land on the north end of property owned by the North American Swiss Center and to combine it with a larger parcel to west of the center.

The smaller portion will be used for a driveway and pedestrian access to the library, according to Nicholas Owen, New Glarus village administrator.

The library will be accessible from Duerst Road. No driveway access from Wis. 39 is allowed.

"Library Board President Faun Phillipson has indicated the next steps will be finding architects and engineers for the project and establishing a fundraising task force to ramp up the fundraising efforts," Owen said.
