MONROE — A semi tractor-trailer rolled over on Monroe’s west side March 5, which shut down traffic for several hours.

The Monroe Police Department was alerted at 6:59 a.m. March 5 for the single-vehicle accident at 6th Avenue West and West 8th Street, just north of the intersection near Taco Bell.

The driver, Ignazio Rito Laudicina, 49 of Rockford, had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported by Green County EMS to Monroe Clinic Hospital for injuries suffered in the wreck. The semi unit is owned by Alter Trading Corporation out of Davenport, Iowa, and was hauling recyclable materials.

“An initial investigation indicates that the semi was likely making a right turn onto 6th Avenue West from West 8th Street and rolled over on its left side during that maneuver,” Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelly wrote in a press release.

Monroe Fire, Green County EMS and the Green County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control. The accident remains under investigation.
