MONROE - The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning from today until 10 p.m. Friday, July 6. Several communities in Green County will have a cooling center available during the night from July 3 through the July 6.
Green County Emergency Management says the warning must be taken very seriously, as more people die from exposure to excessive heat than any other weather event.
The cooling centers will not be opened until they are needed. Residents in need of a cooling center can contact their local police department or the Green County Sheriff's Department. The departments will notify a cooling center and someone from the center will call residents back.
Those who go to a cooling center will need to bring their own food, water, medication and other essential items.
The Green County Emergency Management recommends that resdients first contact a friend or relative to stay with, as they will be much more comfortable at their home.
