Photo supplied by the National Historic Cheesemaking Center
Empire Cheesery, established in 1899, was located near the former Juda Lumber and Fuel Co. in Juda. The photograph, from the John Kolander Collection, indicates that John Alleman was the cheesemaker at the time but currently remains unidentified in the photograph. Empire Cheesery was a Swiss cheese factory as shown by the wheel of Swiss pictured in front of the factory's milk intake, but little else is known.
