MONROE - In a meeting Wednesday, the City of Monroe Public Property Committee:
n Approved the sale of about 30 streetlights removed from the downtown area. Street Supervisor Tom Boll said he was asked by a Monroe businessman about selling the lights, which are about 30 years old. The committee approved the sale of the lights for the best price offered.
n Went into closed session to discuss possibly acquiring property for city use and a negotiation strategy in regards to a purchase price.

n Heard from Mayor Bill Ross who commended the Monroe Police for their professionalism and quick action during a call for a business robbery Tuesday that ended at a downtown bank. Ross also informed the council that City Administrator Phil Rath declined to use the mortgage guarantee approved by the council in March; no further action would be needed.
n Approved a 2011 contract with Building, Zoning, and Assessment Consultants, LLC, for providing building inspections and related services.
n Approved $325,000 to pay bills.
n Granted miscellaneous licenses.
n Approved a consulting agreement with AECOM Technical Services, Inc. for planning wastewater treatment plant facilities. AECOM submitted a quote of $69,170 for the work.
n Authorized Tom Boll, as a city employee, to act as the city's representative for applications to the Department of Natural Resources seeking financial assistance under the state recycling program.
n Authorized hiring Fehr-Graham and Associates, for not more than $25,000, to act as administrator of the Community Development Building Grant (CDBG) grant for the 8th/9th Street water and sewer project. The resolution passed on a 8 to 1 roll call vote, with Thurston Hanson voting against. Hanson questioned why only one quote for the position was submitted. Nobody at the meeting could address the question.
n Approved a revision to the Lakeside Heights Lift Station improvement project and the cost associated with the revision to include replacing water mains and sanitary sewer on Lake Drive. The additional estimated cost of $740,500 for the project includes the force main, sewer main and water main; a complete road surface replacement; and replacing a portion of the curb and gutters. The increased cost of engineering design and construction administration is estimated at about $42,000. These costs do not include the cost of the lift station construction, which was previously estimated at $194,400. The Board of Public Works is also considering installing gutters and curbs along the route where there has not been any before, but will discussed this later as a separate additional item.
n City Clerk Carol Stamm presented the official results of the April 5 election as reported by the Municipal Board of Canvassers.
n Alderman Charles Koch recognized past alderman Stanley J. "Stan" Neuberger, 86, Monroe, who died Friday, April 1. Neuberger had served eight years on the Common Council.
n Police Chief Fred Kelley recognized the employees of First National Bank and Trust for their part in handling a robbery in progress Tuesday. Kelley said bank employees spotted the crime and evacuated employees and customers without alerting the suspects. Kelley also commended the Wisconsin Community Bank for offering refuge to the evacuated employees and providing them with lunch.
