MONROE - At a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:
- Approved bills from Town and County Engineering for $3,500 for golf course retention pond preliminary design, for $2,200 for Lakeside Heights project design, and $13,200 for Lakeside Heights inspections; Fehr Graham and Associates for $1,200 for 8th Street underground storage tank; Mini-Dredge for $108,500 for pond dredging; Whitney Tree Service for $7,603 for tree removals and trimming; Veolia Environmental Services for $1,700 for recycling; and AECom for $32,700 wastewater treatment plant design services for
- Approved a letter of support for a 2013 Clean Sweep program be sent to the county to accompany its grant application to offset the costs of the program. Clean Sweep gives farmers, small business owners and home owners the opportunity to dispose of old, banned and unwanted chemical for free or at a reduced cost. As part of committee approval, the city will staff one of the drop-off stations in the county for the program.
Alderman Tyler Schultz questioned the operation of a traffic light at 21st Street. The street department will investigate the problem for a possible faulty sensor.
Schultz also asked about the fencing for a detention pond on 21st Street. Al Gerber of the Engineering Department said the fence is scheduled to be installed as early as next week.
Members Chuck Schuringa and Michael Boyce were absent.
MONROE - At a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe Finance and Taxation Committee:
- Discussed the extension of a banking services contract with First National Bank and Trust and recommended approval to the council.
- Discuss the proposed capital plan and postponed action until the next meeting.
MONROE - At a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe common Council:
- Approved unanimously extending a banking services contract with First National Bank and Trust.
- Approved unanimously $460,900 to pay bills.
- Granted miscellaneous licenses.
- Granted as temporary class "B" beer license for June 27 to Green County Pork Producers.
- Granted annual renewals of liquor, fermented malt beverage and dance licenses.
- Approved the Wastewater Treatment Facility 2011 Compliance Maintenance Annual Report.
- Approved unanimously a change order for up to $760 on the pond dredging contract with Mini-Dredge, Inc. for repairing a golf cart path at the Monroe Country Club.
Council President Tyler Schultz announced Mayor Bill Ross had appointed Dan Bestul to the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners for a five-year term to end April 2017.
Schultz recognized Jocelyn Kline and Jerry Schmoldt for their retirement from the City of Monroe.
Comptroller Bridget Schuchart explained the new format and changes in the treasurer reports to the council.
Mike Kennison, water utility director, announced a letter explaining the new water meter installations will be sent with the quarterly water bill at the end of the month.
Wisconsin Assemblyman Howard Marklein, 51st District, introduced himself. Marklein became the assemblyman for southeast Green County, including Monroe, under the state redistricting plan.
