MONROE - At a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:

Approved bills from Fehr-Graham and Associates for $75,400 for TIF 7 work, $7,225 and $1,700 for 9th Street and 16th Avenue grant application; from Concrete Raising Corporation for $870 and $4,245 for sidewalk maintenance and for $15,000 for 6th Avenue West bridge approaches repairs; from SEH for $2,200 for 8th and 9th street engineering revisions; and from Veolia Environmental Services for $923 for October recycling. (Veolia Environmental Services has acquired Green Valley Disposal, which had the city recycling contract.)

Authorized hiring Maddrell Excavating LLC, Monroe, as the 2010-2011 contractor for broken main excavating.

Recommended hireing Town and Country Engineering, Madison, at $18,500 for design of sanitary sewer reconstruction for 4th Avenue and Shopko area. The area is at risk for backups and has been plagued with blockages, because sections do not have enough rise, according to George Thompson, wastewater treatment plant superintendent. If approved, reconstruction work could begin in the spring.

Approved a sewer billing adjustment for $775, requested by Keith Hoesly for property located at 2414 11th St. A water leak was discovered in the crawl space of the property, and repaired Aug. 3. City policy allows for ne-time adjustment per property for sewer, but not water.

Authorize the Wastewater Utility to purchase equipment for confined space entry and fall protection at a cost of $13,380 from Olson Safety Equipment, Waukesha.

Keith Ingwell was absent.

Also in a meeting Monday, the Public Safety Committee postponed taking any action on a request for crosswalk in 800 block of 8th Avenue until April 2011. The crosswalk would require a traffic count, which committee members determined would be done best in the spring.
