MONROE - At a meeting Monday, the city of Monroe Board of Public Works:

- Approved bills from Dane County Contracting LLC for $297,980 for work in 8th and 9th street water and sewer improvement project; Fehr-Graham and Associates for $13,700 for 8th and 9th street construction observation, and for $3,260 for community development block grant administration; Whitney Tree Service for $7,475 for tree and stump removal; and Jeff Voegeli Landscaping for $9,000 for 16th Avenue and 18th Street retaining wall.

- Recommend to the council to approve a second change order for 8th and 9th Street sanitary sewer and water improvements, for a net change of an additional $3,700. The changes reflect the need for larger sewer pipe at two locations and the need to cut away bed rock at one location to accommodate two lateral pipes.

- Received an update on the work on the 8th/9th Street project from Al Gerber, city engineering supervisor.

- Received an update on the Lakeside Heights lift station and water, sanitary sewer and street project. Committee members reviewed preliminary engineering information about the condition of utility lines, the tight work area and other difficulties of the project. The project is not expected to be completed until next year. New designs with public input and cost estimates will be presented to the board sometime in October.

- Received an update on the Wastewater Treatment Plant facility planning. AECOM, hired for the project, has developed project goals and objectives. They are reviewing city data and will be doing future water usage projections next.

MONROE - In a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee:

- Discussed a request for a limited term parking permit or area in 1600 block of 9th Street, for unloading in that area due to construction on 9th Street. Police Chief Fred Kelley said his department will watch the area for extended parking. The committee took no action.

- Discussed and approved posting signs designating 10th Street and 11th Street as one-lane, one-way streets. Kelley said some drivers are trying to pass other vehicles on these streets.

- Recommended to the council to approve special events for the American Legion Memorial Day parade and service; Main Street Monroe Concerts on the Square; and Dye/Jacobson wedding parade event. The Concerts on the Square passed 2-1, with Charles Koch voting against. Koch said he approved of the concerts but not drinking at the event. The Green County Humane Society is applying Tuesday for a temporary license to sell beer at the events. Alcohol purchasers will be required to remain within the designated Concerts on the Square area on the west side of the Square.
