MONROE - On Monday, Monroe Common Council:
Proclaimed April 28 as Arbor Day within the city.
Agreed to allow Main Street Monroe to hold the annual Farmer's Market along the downtown Square from May 3 to Oct. 21. Each market will be held on Wednesdays from 1-5:30 p.m. on the west side of the Square, and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the north side.
Granted a permit for possession of live chickens to Tony and Tonya Gratz of 1460 Mansion Drive for six chickens.
Transferred a Class A Fermented Malt Beverage License held by Santos Tinoco from 1713 11th St. to 500 14th Ave.
Approved a request from Main Street Monroe to host two Cars on the Square events during the summer. The Square will be closed for shows on June 2 and Aug. 25 to allow parking space for cars on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Granted an operators license to Jing Yang.
Authorized Main Street Monroe to hold a Summer Kick-Off event for the theme "Once Upon A Square" on June 3.
Agreed to allow a no-parking zone on the east side of the 1900 block of 10th Avenue at the request of the Horseshoe Saloon to prevent collisions between customers parked along the terrace and those across the street from the business' parking. Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley said the space is roughly half a block of space with no buildings in use along the space.
