MONROE - During a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:
Approved for payment bills in the amount of $1,650.75 from Whitney Tree Service for tree removal and in the amount of $4,380 from Kelsey Excavating, Inc. for 18th Avenue water main and sewer extension project.
Authorized replacement of an air conditioning unit for the police department for the coast of $2,558. Public Works Director Kelly Finkenbinder said funds saved from a City Hall replacement boiler installed last year and a grant received for $1,439, with enough in the capital improvement fund, would cover the cost.
Authorized Street Department Supervisor Tom Boll to seek quotes for a new endloader. The expected cost is $120,000. The current 1999 endloader, valued at about $50,000, will be used to replace a vehicle at the airport.
Recommended to council to approve a submittal of Public Service Commission rate case application for the water department.
Recommended to council to approve a change order for a contract with Kelsey Excavating for 18th Avenue sewer and water project. A $12,500 retainage was kept back to complete work on landscaping, $8,120 of which was used. The remaining $4,380 will be paid to Kelsey. Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent Jerry Ellefson said all the required paperwork is in order and Kelsey has signed the settlement order.
Authorized an application to the Department of Commerce for a CDBG grant for funding assistance for the Ninth Street and 16th Avenue sanitary sewer and water projects. Ellefson said 20 to 25 percent of the costs, up to $100,000, could possibly be granted to offset for the WWTP and water department projects. DOT grants for the Ninth Street project and TIF money for the Square streetscape do not cover utilities.
Authorized Fehr-Graham & Associates to submit Ninth Street and 16th Avenue sanitary sewer and water utilities project plans to the Wisconsin DNR for approval, needed for grant approval.
Recommended to Council to approve WWTP annual audit and establish sewer use rates for 2009.
Recommended to Council to hire Fehr-Graham & Associates to prepare bid documents for MERIT Center training tower.
