MONROE - An assistant principal for Argyle will take over the same position at the Monroe Middle School this summer.

The Monroe school board Monday hired Melissa Wiegel as the middle school assistant principal, following the recommendation of two interview committees that included staff, administrators, school board members and parents. Six candidates were interviewed for the position.

Wiegel has a background in working with high-risk youth. She has experience as a juvenile intake worker, case manager and school counselor. She is the grade 6-12 assistant principal in Argyle.

Wiegel will replace Lynne Wheeler, who will be promoted to MMS principal to replace Bill Van Meer. Van Meer announced he will be leaving the district at the end of the year to be district administrator for the Alma Center-Humbird-Merrillan school district.
