MONROE - Monroe High School announced its homecoming schedule for the week of Monday, Sept. 24.
Along with the parade, sporting events and Battle of the Bands, there will be a few changes to this year's homecoming events. To increase student participation, the high school will be replacing the monday kickoff breakfast with a cookout during the school lunch hour. The cookout will include performances by the dance team, show choir and cheerleaders, as well as an introduction to the 2012 Homecoming Court and an update on the events that will ensue throughout the course of the week.
Another change to events will be the Battle of the Bands, which starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26 in the high school gymnasium. This year, along with the student bands, the high school will be hosting "The Family Business," a locally based band that just recently won the 2012 Project M competition, a live music competition in Madison. Members of the public are encouraged to come and see the rock band perform.
This year's Homecoming Week will be filled with sporting events.
On Tuesday, the volleyball team will play at home against Fort Atkinson at 7 p.m., then at Milton on Thursday. The swim team will also compete in Fort Atkinson on Tuesday.
On Thursday, the junior varsity and freshmen football teams will play Oregon. The boys soccer team will play at Baraboo on Thursday, and at Belleville/New Glarus on Saturday morning.
On Friday night, the football team will take on Oregon at 7 p.m. at the high school.
On Saturday morning, the Monroe cross country team will run in the Platteville Invite, and the volleyball team will play in the Wisconsin Heights Invite.
The homecoming parade will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday. The parade will leave from the high school down and around the Square. This year's parade theme is Disney, in accordance to the homecoming theme, "Let's Make Magic Happen," and the dance theme, "When You Wish Upon a Star."
