MONROE - A Monroe man was arrested Wednesday after a brief standoff with police officers at a Monroe residence.

Gerald L. Brown, 43, was reported making threats of self-harm with a shotgun shortly after midnight in the 1100 block of 17th Street.

According to a Monroe Police report, when officers arrived, they saw a man with a shotgun walk across the street from a residence, and then flee back inside when he saw approaching officers.

Officers evacuated all occupants of the residence while Brown cloistered himself in an interior room.

Officers were also able to recover a shotgun that was apparently discarded near the residence.

After about two hours, Brown emerged from the residence and surrendered to officers. He was arrested and charged with endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct while armed and domestic disorderly conduct.

Brown was jailed.
