MONTICELLO - A Monticello man with three convictions of driving while intoxicated was arrested again on the same charge late Wednesday, July 4, after he crashed a truck in the Town of New Glarus.

Kevin J. Venden, 27, was injured and transported by Medflight to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, according to a release from the Green County Sheriff's Department.

Two of Venden's passengers were also injured. Rhonda L. Briggs, 28, and Amanda M. Neeley, 9, both of rural Verona, were transported by Belleville EMS to Meriter Hospital in Madison.

A third passenger, Travis J. Smith, 36, Monticello, was uninjured.

Deputies responded at 11:47 p.m. to the accident. According to their investigation, Venden lost control of a 2001 Ford pickup truck while eastbound on Farmer Grove Road at Disch Road. The truck slid into the ditch, collided with a utility pole and then came to a rest deeper in the ditch.

Venden faces his fourth charge of driving while intoxicated, with an added penalty for doing so with a passenger under the age of 16. He was also arrested on warrants issued by Green County for failure to pay fines and cited for failure to maintain control.

Briggs was cited for driving without a valid license, since deputies say she was driving the truck shortly before the crash occurred and then switched with Venden.

The truck sustained severe front-end damage and was towed. The New Glarus EMS and Fire Departments and Green County EMS also responded to the accident.

Court records indicate Venden was convicted of his second DWI in 2004 and his third in 2010, both in Green County.
