MONROE - The Monroe FFA land judging team placed fourth in the state contest held in Outagamie County July 17 at the Farm Technology Days show.
The team consisted of Troy Gorr, Austin Minder, Mark Jenson and Nick Maveous. There were fifteen teams participating in the contest, with the top five teams advancing to the national contest next May.
Teams judged four soil pits and answered questions on topsoil, subsoil, drainage, erosion, slope, soil limitations, conservation practices, non-ag uses and land capability classes.
The other top teams were Cashton, first; River Ridge, second; Cuba City, third; and Hillsboro, fifth. Monticello placed seventh and Pecatonica placed ninth.
The following students placed as individuals: Monroe's Gorr (second), Jenson (19th) and Maveous (21st); Monticello's Forrest Haven (ninth) and Lucas Marty (17th); and Pecatonica's Cora Demler (13th).
