Road crews were out Thursday but slippery roads could remain a problem for a few days.

According to Green County Highway Commissioner Dallas Cecil, primary state roads, such as Wis. 11 and Wis. 69, are in pretty good shape but secondary state roads and county highways have many scattered slippery spots. According to weather forecasts, it's going to stay that way for a while, he said.

"It's pretty slippery out there and snow packed. It's too cold to do salting, so we're just (using) chipping."

Cecil also said the expected winds will cause more drifting.

Tom Jean, Lafayette Highway commissioner, said their roads had a lot of drifting Thursday night, but the drifts have all been pushed back.

All the roads are open, and in fair weather driving conditions, but he urged drivers to use caution and slow down.

"It's still slick out there. Our material isn't working, it's so cold," he said.

Jean also expects the winds to pick up this afternoon and cause more drifting.

A cold front will bring some light snow today.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for this weekend for south central and southeast Wisconsin, which includes Lafayette, Green and Rock counties. A wind chill advisory will be in effect after midnight tonight. Wind chill is expected to reach 27 below zero.

The wind chill advisory will continue Saturday and Sunday night for bitterly cold wind chills to 30 below.

Accumulating snow is expected again Monday and Monday night.
