MONROE - Federal officials have agreed to reimburse local governments in Wisconsin for three-fourths of the cost of a severe snow storm in early February.
Local governments in 11 Wisconsin counties spent $11.3 million during the storm.
Lafayette County won't be one of them.
Green County will receive aid, but highway department supervisor Dick Marti did not know how much.
Green County Highway Commissioner Dallas Cecil told the Times in March that the county spent $14,600 for snow removal on Feb. 5; $26,800 on Feb. 6; $26,500 on Feb. 7; and $9,200 on Feb. 8.
Over the same period, the county spent about $46,000 to clear state roads, he added.
Lafayette County Highway Commissioner Tom Jean said Lafayette County will not receive any financial assistance.
He said he didn't know why his county, as well as two others in the state, was turned down for aid.
"We're not very happy about it," Jean said.
Wisconsin Emergency Management spokeswoman Lori Getter says the Federal Emergency Management Agency will reimburse eligible counties 75 percent of their expenses related to the storm. The state will pick up 12.5 percent. Local governments will have to cover the remainder themselves.
