MONROE - Rural Green County continues to be under an outdoor burn ban until further notice.

The Green County Sheriff's Department announced Monday, July 31 that the ban will continue "until the area receives significant rainfall."

The ban covers all of Green County, with the exception of cities and villages that have their own ordinances in place.

All ban covers all forms of outdoor burning; gas and charcoal grills are still permitted.

The sheriff's department made the decision to extend the burn ban after consulting with members of the Green County Fire Chief's Association.

Last week, the Lafayette County Fire Chief's Association issued a similar burning ban, effective for the entire county until further notice.
