On Wednesday, Nov. 12, the Green County Board of Supervisors:
Approved a resolution to issue promissory notes not to exceed $9,685,000 to help pay for the justice center. The board voted in September to issue bonds for that amount to pay for the justice center, but found out it would be cheaper for the county to issue promissory notes. The county can decide to issue bonds at a later date when it would be financially beneficial for the county.
Approved a union contract for Pleasant View Nursing Home for 2008 and 2009. The 2008 contract gives employees a 2.5 percent wage increase effective Jan. 1, 2008, and a 2 percent increase July 12, 2009. The union hasn't ratified the contract yet, Green County Corporation Counsel Bill Morgan told the board. When it does, the contract will go into effect.
Approved the 2008 and 2009 contracts for Green County Human Services. The contract calls for a 2 percent increase in wages effective Jan. 1, 2008, and a 2 percent increase in wages in 2009, effective July 12, 2009. The union already has ratified the contract and Morgan said it will go into effect immediately.
Adopted an ordinance to allow the Green County Zoning Committee to set fees for such things as fire number signs and sewer fees rather than require the county board to make changes in fee amounts. Board member Russ Torkelson voted against the ordinance because he said he hears from people who complain fees already are too high.
