MONROE - Each year, the Green County Humane Society, Monroe, teams with Everyone Needs a Home, South Wayne, to offer four free spay/neuter days for cats to help stop the cycle of overpopulation.
GCHS contracts with the Dane County Humane Society's mobile spay/neuter unit to provide alteration surgeries.
Residents from Green and Lafayette counties with financial need are eligible to participate in the program. The next clinic date is Friday, Aug. 24.
The Green County surgeries are funded by a grant from United Way of Green County; ENAH is not a recipient of the United Way grant.
Lafayette County residents can register by calling (608) 543-3637 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. beginning Monday, Aug. 13. ENAH will take calls until all Lafayette County slots are filled.
Lafayette County cats do not need proof of vaccination; they can get vaccinations the day of the surgery, and they will not be charged for vaccinations, although donations will be accepted.
While Lafayette County's registration process will remain the same, Green County's registration process has changed. Green County residents may begin registering at any time by following these guidelines. The vaccination policies stated in section six are for Green County residents only.
1. Applicants must print and complete the application located at www.greencountyhumane.org or at the shelter, 1500 6th Ave. There is a limit of two cats per applicant, per year. Feral cats are not accepted into this program.
2. Return the completed application to the shelter by either dropping it off at the shelter; emailing it to shelter@greencountyhumane.org; faxing it to (608) 325-9608; or mailing it to P.O. Box 54, Monroe, WI 53566.
3. The application will be reviewed and applicants will be notified of the status of their application. The application is only good for the clinic date applicants apply for.
4. Those who are accepted into the program will be placed on the waiting list for the clinic they applied for. Dates are subject to change. If a surgical date is rescheduled, applicants will be contacted.
5. Applicants will be notified 48 to 72 hours prior to the surgical date with instructions on how to prepare their cat for surgery.
6. Cats must have current rabies and distemper shots in order to participate in the program and a required proof of vaccination will be needed when participants bring their cat for surgery. If the cat does not have current rabies or distemper vaccinations, shots will be given prior to surgery. Participants will be responsible for the cost of the vaccinations, which is $5 per vaccination. If cats have fleas and needs to be treated the day of surgery, applicants will also be responsible for this cost, which is currently $3.
7. If there is no room in the clinic date applicants choose, they are responsible for submitting a new application for a future clinic date.
