TOWN OF BROOKLYN — Both drivers were injured and one cited after a head-on semi vs. pickup truck crash that occurred in heavy fog just west of Brooklyn Wednesday, Nov. 20, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident happened at about 7:35 a.m. at the intersection of Wisconsin 92 and Glenway Road, where the highway turns east.
The pickup driver, Armin J. Peterson, 46, Brooklyn, was northbound on Wis. 92 and had a stop sign at Glenway Road but later reported he did not see it. He continued straight through the intersection to Glenway Road and collided head-on with the semi.
When the crash occurred, the semi driver, Darrell M. Frye, 60, Beloit, was westbound on Wis. 92 and trying to continue southbound on the highway where it turns. There is no stop sign for this south-turning traffic.
The heavy fog in the area “greatly reduced visibility levels,” Sgt. Allen W. Peters reported.
Frye was taken by ambulance to the Mercy Health ER in Janesville for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The semi-tractor had disabling front-end damage. The unit was towed.
Peterson reported a minor injury but was not transported from the scene. His pickup had disabling front-end damage, with airbag deployment. It was towed.
Peterson was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
The intersection was closed about two hours due to the crash. The Wisconsin State Patrol, Brooklyn police, Brooklyn EMS, Oregon EMS, Brooklyn Fire Department and Green County Highway Department assisted deputies on scene.
