MONROE - Station No. 1 of the Monroe Fire Department was named the 2011 Varco Pruden Buildings Hall of Fame.
The building, located at 601 West 17th Street, was recognized for its pleasing aesthetics, value based on cost per square foot and energy efficiency, according to Monroe Fire Chief Daryl Rausch.
"We appreciate Varco Pruden recognizing the efforts of so many people to make this wonderful facility a reality," he said.
About 60 of about 1,200 applicants receive the award annually. Criteria includes excellence in design, craftsmanship and construction.
Dave Haroldson Architects designed the fire house, and it was constructed in 2010 by Midwest Builders.
"The ease of construction and the cooperation from architect Dave Haroldson, the general contractors and sub-contractors made the project very easy to manage and the monthly utility services are running less than half of the projected estimates," Rausch said.
