MONROE - The deer kill from opening weekend of the gun deer season was up 30 percent in Green County this year compared to last year.
Hunters downed 355 antlered deer and 413 antlerless over the weekend, compared to last year's opening weekend harvest of 269 antlered and 315 antlerless and five unknown, according to data on the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources website.
Lafayette County saw an increase of about 13 percent over last year. There were 425 antlered and 509 antlerless deer taken, compared to 359 antlered, 453 antlerless and 11 unknown deer taken during last year's opener.
